Miscellany: “Careers Beyond Academia and the Humanities”

The Department of English Literature and Language at IIS (Deemed to be University) organized an online Miscellany session titled Careers Beyond Academia and the Humanities on 13th November. The guest speaker was Dr. Ritu Sen, an accomplished professional currently serving as Manager, Learning and Development at AXA-XL, Delhi. Dr. Sen’s multifaceted career journey, which spans journalism, teaching, and corporate training, provided valuable insights into career opportunities beyond the traditional academic path. The session began with a formal introduction of Dr. Ritu Sen by Dr. Sanghmitra Rathore, Assistant Professor at the Department, who highlighted Dr. Sen’s versatile professional background and her contributions to journalism, cinema, and corporate training.

Dr. Ritu Sen delivered an engaging talk, exploring the diverse career prospects available to students of humanities. Drawing on her rich experience, she emphasized the importance of embracing opportunities with a flexible and innovative mindset. She shed light on how passion, adaptability, and a continuous zeal for learning can pave the way for meaningful professional journeys. Dr. Sen shared her personal journey, starting from her initial aspirations in journalism to her current role in corporate learning and development. She also detailed her experiences working on a unique journalism project with the Indian Army, where she contributed to creating an audio-visual channel documenting the lives of soldiers. Additionally, she spoke about her stint as a teacher, where she inspired engineering students by bridging the gap between literature, cinema, and critical thinking.
