The students will:

  1. Be familiarized with the evolution of Romanticism as a concept and movement in literature
  2. Understand and evaluate the main characteristics of the pre-Romantic era
  3. Acquire knowledge of the social, philosophical, intellectual and literary background
  4.  Examine the impact of traditional restrictions on the creativity of the writers and the resultant deviations from the literary trends and practices in their output
  5. Appreciate the genres of poetry in terms of the socio-cultural contexts, use of literary devices, forms and techniques
