REPORT ON FLTA TALK

A talk on Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Program (FLTA) was organized on 9 August, 2016 at Vinayak Hall by the Department of English, The IIS University. The resource person for the same was Dr. Gayatri Singhal, Program Officer, New Delhi. The talk began with a formal introduction by Dr. Rimika Singhvi, and floral welcome by Dr. Rani Rathore, Head, Department of English. The aim of the talk was to inform the students about the benefits of this valuable assistance program along with briefing them about various steps involved in the application procedure and eligibility criteria for the same.

The session proved highly interactive and instructive by informing the students about this nine-month, non-degree program for early career English teachers who are teaching at college level or professionals in related fields. The students were motivated to learn that it also extends an opportunity to refine their teaching skills, increase their English language proficiency and extend their knowledge of the society and culture of the United States, while being teaching assistants for their native language to U.S. students and strengthening foreign language instruction at U.S. colleges and universities. The session also threw some light on the cross- cultural promotional benefits of this fellowship program. Dr. Singhal clarified all the doubts of the students and held an interesting and detailed session beginning from the nature of the program to the profiles of some FLTA fellows.

At the end of the session, Dr. Rani Rathore extended a formal vote of thanks to Dr. Gayatri Singhal for sparing her valuable time and enlightening the university students by her highly informative session.
