The Department, on 28 February 2019, hosted some of their alumnae in an Interactive Session for its students. Shefali Martins, a senior pass-out from the class of 2005; Chandna Singh Nirwan, who graduated a few years after Shefali and a very recent graduate, Harshita Tewani, were on the panel for sharing their respective journeys since the time they stepped out of the portals of their alma mater.
Having found success in the field of print journalism, Shefali talked about the edge a bacon English Literature gave her over the others in her line of work, drawing overt connections between the two subjects.
Following suit, Chandna discussed the importance of a firm grounding in English Literature as a subject and alerted the students to the current trends in the NET examination pattern. She encouraged them to approach exam-preparation with a strident focus, giving examples from her own experiences. She brought her talk to a close with the formal presentation of a self-authored monograph to the Department.
Finally, Harshita brought real-life contexts from her stint in electronic media (radio) to bear upon the students and drove home the importance of failure as a necessary pre-requisite to tasting success.
The session came to a close with the floor being opened for some Q & A with the alumnae. There was enthusiastic participation from the audience, several of whom asked pertinent questions and received insightful replies.
