Poetry Slam
The Readers' Club of IIS (deemed to be University) organized a Poetry Slam session for the month of February, 2021 for all those students who sought a platform for self expression or had been toying with the idea of the spoken word medium. The activity saw active participants on the part of both students and faculty members of the Department of English who read out their self-composed poems. The subjects of the poems ranged from slice-of-life moments to philosophical musings on abstract ideas to contemporary issues such as the psychological effects of the COVID 19 pandemic.
The session also consisted of a discussion on the process of creative writing, the importance of such platforms as Slam Poetry for budding poets, as well as the way forward for publishing one's works. Furthermore, a special reading of select poems from Jaipur-based poet Jagdeep Singh's recently published anthology entitled My Epitaph also became a special attraction for the students. The interactive session came to a close with the faculty members applauding the students’ efforts and a formal Vote of Thanks.
