Objective: 
  • The course will enable the students to:

    • Understand the diverse social, cultural and aesthetic values in Indian literature
    • Develop an understanding of the forms and contexts of Indian writing in English
    • Discuss such issues concerning Indian Writing in English as the representation of culture, identity, history, constructions of nation, the (post)national , gender politics and cross-cultural transformations in literature

 

Course Learning Outcome

The students will be able to:

  •  Gain an understanding of the social, political, and cultural issues reflected in Indian writing in English, with reference to Indian social reformation, the freedom struggle, women’s education and empowerment 
  • Get an insight into Partition literature; narratives of nation and nationalism; counter-discourse; subalternity; and, identity-movements, among others
