Objective: 

Course Objectives:

The course will enable the students to:

  • Identify the diverse social, cultural and aesthetic values in Indian literature
  • Recognise the forms and contexts of Indian writing in English
  • Discuss issues concerning Indian Writing in English as the representation of culture, identity, history, constructions of nation, the (post)national, gender politics and cross-cultural transformations in literature

 

Course Outcomes -

The students will :

  • Analyse the social, political, and cultural issues reflected in Indian writing in English
  • Evaluate key areas in Indian Writing in English such as Partition literature; narratives of nation and nationalism, etc.
  • Examine Indian social reformation, the freedom struggle, women’s education and empowerment in Indian Writing in English 
  • Critically appreciate the various forms of literature and the writers’ themes and issues
